Merry Christmas from the little family

Merry Christmas!

Just a little update...

Taylor turned one year old just last month and she is finally walking around on her own it is so fun to see her become more and more independent. She is starting to say words like mama, grandpa, up , uhoh, hot and dada.

Stephen has been working for a dairy not far from our farm and I have been busy keeping up with the chores and getting ready for Christmas.

Bonnie-our dog is due to have puppies in January (3rd) and Tilly our cow should calve any day now.

I feel like I'm distracted...i probably should say more..but, that will have to wait until later.

Just being Thankful

I have been wanting to blog this for a while but, I can't quite get the words out. I have time right now though and it looks like I am ready.

Sometimes I wonder why things happen the way that they do-does anyone besides God have the answers though? Why do some people starve while some have nothing to eat? Why are we so greedy when we have so much? Sometimes instead of being thankful for what I have I just really want what I don't have-why is that?
It's hard to see people with so much and say I want that but, than look at someone else and see that they have less than I do-now I am the one that has everything.I think what I want to concentrate on this holiday season is being thankful to God. I want to stop asking God for things so much and just be thankful.

I look around at all the good things that God has given my family-A wonderful farm, healthy animals for milk and meat, produce from lots of sources and canning resources to save our own food, and Taylor. There is not much more that I could ask for.

Taylor and the Chocolate

My Nephews came home with a ton of haloween candy. Which we promptly stuck in a bowl on the dining room table mistake number one. That very day they had a sugar high-we needed to get rid of the candy as fast as possible.

That leads us to mistake number two the boy's mom and I took most of the chocolate and hid it in a secret spot known to me in the kitchen. We were planning to save it till later to make cookies with.
I sometimes like chocolate so knowing it was there was tempting and one day when I snatched a peice and Taylor saw me. Taylor loves to get into the cupboards and now somehow -no thanks to me-she knows what and where the chocolate is. I have to move the chocolate because now that my one year old knows where and what it is.If she sees me with any she thinks she deserves some.

I don't want her to eat sugar because it isn't good for her and I was really surprised how quickly she decided that chocolate was something she wanted.

Looks like we made it!

I know that I am quoting a song that makes me think of country music and if I follow that thought I think about our farm.I can't believe that we finally arrived here but, It looks like we made it.

In July we moved to the most perfect-if that is even a phrase-farm. We have a large house and that turned out perfect because we are able to share it with my husband's sister and her family. We have a barn that is filled with our hay( although some of the hay  that we made this year got ruined in the rain(makes sad face)). There are 24 acres here for us to grow a wonderful garden, pick blackberries, pasture our animals, and target practice on. We have a shop and with 4 bays. This is the best place that we could find-It is so amazing .

God has blessed us so much. He has given us this farm and my husband a job close by at a dairy farm. God really answers prayer.

Sometimes It is hard to think about the things that you don't have but, it is better to be thankful for the things that you have.

I can't wait to see what God has in store for us next.

quilt

This is the quilt that I started for Taylor long before she was born
The quilt that I made recently for our next child-hoping for a boy!
Today I finished the baby boy quilt that I have been making for the last few months. At first I was thinking that it might be a good baby gift but, I have decided now that I will keep it for when we have a son.The reason that I decided to keep it was all the work that I ended up putting into it.I hand traced and cut out all the pieces, hand sewed all the animals and the quilt edging, and my grandma, aunt, and myself hand quilted it-tons of work!

Next, I am planning on making a dress, skirt, and I am also working on a new quilt for my friend's baby that is coming in December.

busy life, busy wife

I have been so busy lately- I am just waiting for someone else to want me to do something. Now this is not technically a rant so I am not complaining .more like spilling my guts.

I told you before that my husband has a milk cow and 2 heifer calves. For his birthday my sister in law and I bought him a black baldy bull...he named him Torito (appropriately Spanish for little bull)..he is castarated now though and at 205 lb he is going to grow up to be our very own beef steer. We also have somewhere close to 45 chickens-don't worry they aren't all laying yet.

When my husband works I have to do a lot of the chores by myself. Besides the chores I have to take care of Taylor and clean house. On the side I have been watching my niece and nephew three days a week and on the side of that I have been tutoring my brother and sister 1 day a week. Since I have to do something fun too I have been hand quilting a blanket for when we have a boy in the future (I have high hopes ok).(side note:I am going to post pictures of the quilt soon-it is turning out really good.)

I can't believe that I actually have time to blog considering all this.I wanted to post pictures but, I can't find the camera chip.sad.

Have a Cow!

Today we bought a 2 year old jersey cow. Her name is Tilly! We bought her from an organic dairy-I am really excited! I think that it is going to take a while to break us in on the milking, it has been a hard trail so far.One of the most exciting things is that she is bred and is due to have a baby in December....so either we will have our own steer our another cow!

My husband is getting more adventurous-I love him-he really is amazing!

She is supposed to give us four gallons of milk a day.I am really looking forward to making my own cheese, butter, ice cream..and all things dairy. We are becoming regular dairy farmers now!

See how baby Taylor has grown!

Pondering?

I know that I have very poor blogging habits. I will admit it. I only blog when I am in the mood -why is that?

I guess that is one of the great questions of life?

The Other question is are men less judgmental and more forgiving than women? I seem to pick friends easily and other people turn into people that I don't want to hang out with just as easily. My husband has the qualities that I mentioned above-maybe I should try to be more like him?

Any thoughts?
